The Save Our Sleep My First Pillow just celebrated its 6th anniversary! While browsing the photos on our new webstore, I stumbled upon an adorable picture of Cillian and his Dizzie Dog enjoying one of the very first pillows, and it hit me—this photo was taken six years ago. Just look at how cute he was back then!
I always wanted to recommend the perfect pillow when my clients, readers, and friends were setting up their little one’s big bed. But I could never find one I truly loved. So, with the help of Bambi Enterprises, I designed my own.
What makes My First Pillow stand out from the others on the market?
Here are the top three reasons: First, every toddler pillow I found was designed to fit a cot, which is dangerous. Having a pillow in a cot is unsafe, and marketing them for cot use isn’t a good idea. Secondly, the pillows were all too small. When transitioning your toddler from a cot to a big bed, they didn’t fit standard pillowcases, making it impossible to use a matching pillowcase with your little one’s chosen duvet set. Most importantly, safety – it needed to be safe even if your toddler ended up face down on it.
There are several other great features of this pillow that you can explore below…

When should I start using a pillow for my child?
It’s generally recommended to introduce a pillow when your child transitions from a cot to a bed, typically around 2.5 to 3 years old. My First Pillow is specifically designed for this stage, offering the perfect blend of comfort and support. It’s important to avoid using a pillow in a cot, even if your child is older, as it could be used as a step to climb out and lead to a fall. When transitioning your toddler from a cot to a big bed, it’s best to use the same bedding as in the cot. While it’s a good idea to invest in new bedding, as mentioned in Save Our Sleep Toddler and Goodbye Cot Hello Bed and Big Bed Problems, for the first few weeks, use it only to dress the bed during the day and remove it at sleep times. However, if your toddler insists on using the new bedding, you can keep it on during sleep times. Be sure to avoid feather pillows—they’re too soft, can trigger allergies, and pose a smothering risk if your child’s head sinks into it while sleeping.
